Position Description: The Development Coordinator leads Kairos’ fundraising operations with a particular emphasis on individual and institutional donors. With great attention to detail and deadlines, the Development Coordinator will cultivate and track existing donor relationships and secure new ones, conduct donor and foundation research, coordinate donor briefings, utilize online fundraising tools and campaigns, and manage the organization’s fundraising data systems. The Development coordinator plays a lead in running a fast-paced and growing operation. The primary responsibility for this position is to act as a donor organizer and nurture and grow a solid base of major donors, sustainers, as well as other individual and institutional supporters of Kairos’s work.

Organization Description: Drawing on the power of religions and human rights, the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice — one of the two national anchor organizations for the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival — works to raise up generations of religious and community leaders committed to the unity and organization of the poor as the leading social force in building a broad, transformative movement to end poverty.

Essential Duties:

Work closely with the director, Kairos Council, other staff and donors to cultivate and arrange meetings with existing and potential major donors, attend those meetings, and respond with appropriate follow-up information and communication. (15%)

Build relationships with Kairos donors and donor prospects (both individual and institutional) – including doing donor and foundation research, online and in person meetings, making thank you calls, sending regular updates, responding to donor questions, inviting donors to upcoming activities, sending individual appeals, organizing donor briefings, making in-person (or zoom/phone) asks, and doing appropriate follow up. (50%)

Coordinate & streamline data management and donor tracking. Maintain the accuracy of the database including capturing participants & their contact information at in-person and online events, doing or supervising interns to do data entry, updating addresses, tracking cultivators, and documenting contacts Kairos is having with donors. (10%)

Other duties may include: train and support staff and volunteer cultivators to approach, recruit, and steward the donors to whom they are connected; help craft and update fundraising support materials (written and video); develop and utilize online fundraising tools and campaigns, pitch in on foundation proposals; and help coordinate special events. (25%)


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 2 to 5 years in development including soliciting donations by phone and in person.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid data management skills.
  • Ability to interact in a friendly, professional manner with prospects, donors, staff and volunteers from many different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Integrity and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Passion for the Kairos mission and an expectation to engage deeply with this growing and important organization.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Wealth Engine, and Action Network preferred.
  • Experience with basic graphic design and video editing a plus.

Physical Requirements: Currently (given COVID-19), work is performed remotely. Kairos has an office in New York City. Must be able to work irregular hours and some travel will be required post-pandemic.
