Position Description:

The Executive Assistant supports the work of the Director of the Kairos Center and the Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign, Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis. Rev. Dr. Theoharis is responsible for directing a dynamic and growing social justice organization in the Kairos Center, as well as co-charing one of the largest political projects in the country through the Poor People’s Campaign. The Executive Assistant works closely with Rev. Dr. Theoharis in carrying out her daily leadership responsibilities, including calendaring and scheduling her work flow, coordinating logistics for meetings, events and travel, attending meetings and taking notes, organizing administrative systems, handling her social media, and traveling regularly with Rev. Dr. Theoharis. The Executive Assistant also works closely with the larger administrative and operations team at Kairos and the Poor People’s Campaign, as well as other teams as necessary. 

The perfect candidate for this position will be highly organized, detail oriented, a fast learner, and committed to social justice. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a prominent organizer, faith and social justice leader, and Biblical scholar. There are innumerable opportunities for mentorship, learning the ins and outs of building one of the most dynamic social movements of our time, and collaboration with grassroots and religious leaders across the country.   

Organization Description: Drawing on the power of religions and human rights, the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice — one of the two national anchor organizations for the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival — works to raise up generations of religious and community leaders committed to the unity and organization of the poor as the leading social force in building a broad, transformative movement to end poverty.

Essential Duties: 

  • Maintaining the calendar of the Director, including scheduling meetings and events, handling arrangements and details for regular engagements and speaking opportunities, and more. 
  • Managing logistics in a fast-paced environment: travel, lodging, and arranging hospitality for meetings and gatherings.
  • Coordinating relationships with high-profile individuals, a wide range of organizations, media, donors, and press.
  • When appropriate, attending meetings on behalf of the Director and keeping her informed of outcomes.
  • Drafting memos, documents, and other materials.
  • Working closely with the administrative and operations teams to support the work of the Director and the larger work of Kairos and the Poor People’s Campaign. 
  • Regular travel with the Director, including handling on-the-ground arrangements, logistics, social media, and the cultivation of new contacts and relationships. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact in a friendly, professional manner with prospects, donors, staff, and volunteers from many different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Integrity and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Passion for the Kairos mission and an expectation to engage deeply with this growing and important organization.

Physical Requirements: Currently (given COVID-19), work is performed remotely. Kairos has an office in New York City. Must be able to work irregular hours and travel will be required. Preference for NYC-based applicants.
