Moral March on Memphis

May 23, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

4:30pm Gather at Robert R. Church Park

5:00pm Moral March

6:00pm Mass Meeting at National Civil Rights Museum (450 Mulberry St.)

Fifty four years after Dr. King declared that “either the movement lives or dies in Memphis,” we continue the unfinished work of fighting to end systematic racism, systemic poverty and a war-based economy, ecological devastation and the false moral narrative of religious nationalism. On our way to the Mass Poor People’s and Low Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls on June 18, 2022, we come together in Memphis where the work was interrupted and the dream shattered. After the assassination, after the crucifixion, we return to Memphis, the Mississippi and Arkansas Deltas, to make resurrection real for the 140 million poor and low-income people in this nation.

Poor and low income people from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas, along with faith leaders, moral advocates, and artists, will gather on May 23 because our state legislatures continue to deny people fair wages, health care, housing, a healthy environment, and access to the ballot box.

These policies are disproportionately hurting the 5 million poor and low-income people across TN, MS, and AR. And the US Congress has failed thus far to pass real support that would fill the gap. We are coming together across the Mid-South to put our state and federal elected officials that this system is killing ALL of us, and we demand the whole nation do MORE to live up its possibilities:

  • MORE to fully address the interlocking injustices of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation and the denial of health care, militarism and the war economy and the false moral narrative of religious nationalism.
  • MORE to change the narrative and build the power of those most impacted by these injustices.
  • MORE to realize a Third Reconstruction agenda that can build this country from the bottom up and realize the nation we have yet to be.

And we must do MORE – Mobilizing, Organizing, Registering and Educating people for a movement that votes – as we drive toward The Mass Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers’ Assembly & Moral March on Washington and to the Polls on June 18, 2022, for a generationally transformative gathering. Not just for a day, but making a bold declaration of an ongoing committed moral movement that dares to change the political narrative, build power and demands that this nation fully address poverty and low wealth from the bottom up.
