Building Moral Leadership to Address Christian Nationalism

January 12, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - January 14, 2025 @ 9:00 pm EST

2025 will see a new president take office in a highly polarized nation, where White Christian Nationalism holds influence over significant sections of political, religious and cultural life, regardless of the outcome of November’s election. How do people of faith make sense of this moment, its threats and opportunities? How do we effectively confront religious nationalism? And how do we move beyond playing defense to actually envision and embody the just society God calls us to build?

A week before the presidential inauguration, join the Kairos Center and Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) for a virtual conference to engage these questions with religious leaders, congregants, and others committed to confronting White Christian Nationalism and building a just and inclusive democracy. This gathering will be held on Zoom over three evenings, Jan. 12-14, 7-9 pm ET/6-8 pm CT/5-7 pm MT/4-6 pm PT.
Attendees will:
  • Make sense of the current political moment.
  • Find resources for hope in this difficult time by proclaiming a vision of abundance, truth, and communal flourishing as a counter narrative to the lies and distortions of extremists.
  • Develop a theologically grounded vision for what it looks like to counter White Christian Nationalism through an economic and racial justice movement and articulate a constructive vision of the love, truth, and justice that we want to see in the world.

This is the first public event as part of an upcoming program, the Luke 10 Initiative, which will launch cohorts of congregations this spring to understand and confront White Christian Nationalism.
