Winter Offensive – Las Posadas: A call for God’s Abundance for all
As the Christian holiday season descends we re-read the story of Joseph and Mary who were told there was no room at the Inn, just as we are told that there is no housing for the homeless, no healthcare for the sick, no refuge for the immigrant. As the poor and dispossessed we are not looking for empty Christmas celebrations but the abundance that Jesus proclaimed for all and not just a few. This season, we see that a movement is being born in the forgotten mangers, the poor hoods and hollers of the nation. May we spread this good news that ending poverty and homelessness aren’t only possible, they are what God demands of us.
Join is in person at First Hispanic United Methodist Church – The People’s Church (163 East 111 Street NYC 10029) for another hybrid joint service with Freedom Church of the Poor and La Iglesia del Pueblo.
3:30pm EST – Posada around the neighborhood (Doors will open at 3:00pm) – In-person

La Ofensiva de Invierno – Las Posadas: Un llamado a la Abundancia de Dios para todos
A medida que desciende la temporada navideña, releemos la historia de José y María a quienes se les dijo que no había lugar en el mesón, al igual que se nos dice que no hay alojamiento para los desamparados, ni atención médica para los enfermos, ni refugio para los inmigrantes. Como La Iglesia del Pueblo, no buscamos celebraciones navideñas vacías, sino proclamar la abundancia que Jesus proclamó para todos y no solo para unos pocos. Esta temporada, vemos un movimiento naciendo en los pesebres olvidados de nuestro tiempo. Difundamos, pues, esta buena noticia de que acabar con la pobreza y la falta de vivienda es posible, y es además lo que Dios exige de nosotros.
