Join us at Union Seminary on Wednesday, October 14th for a screening of two new films about Fannie Lou Hamer and about building a new Poor People’s Campaign: This Little Light of Mine: The Legacy of Fannie Lou Hamer and On the Road in Selma for a New Poor People’s Campaign. We’re excited to have filmmakers from both films coming to the event to talk and answer questions about these stories and their ongoing work.
This Little Light of Mine, a new film from Robin Hamilton, tells the story of American hero Fannie Lou Hamer and her part in the fight to make real the promise of democracy in this country. The next day, on October 15th, it’ll be screened as a part of the NYC Independent Film Festival. You can watch a trailer for the film and buy tickets for the screening at the festival here.
On the Road in Selma for a New Poor People’s Campaign follows the recent Poor People’s Campaign delegation to Selma, Alabama for the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Voting Rights campaign and the Edmund Pettus bridge-crossing. Leaders from a dozen organizations went to build new relationships and to hear about the plight, the fight, and the insight of poor people fighting for their health and dignity in Selma and the surrounding counties. It also documents a Community Hearing on Poverty in Selma and Throughout the South, organized by the Poor People’s Campaign delegation and highlighting the connections between different fights and struggles in the region. You can learn more about the delegation and watch the film here.
The screening is free will take place from 6:30-8:30pm on October 14th at Union Theological Seminary (3041 Broadway, New York, NY 10027). Please RSVP using the form below – space is limited!
