Poor People’s Campaign meets Monday with Sen. Sanders on Build Back Better and beyond, holding the line
Meeting starts at 6pm ET at Capitol with media availability to follow
The co-chairs of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival and several poor and low-income leaders, who will be most impacted by the Build Back Better plan, will meet with Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday evening to thank him for working hard to keep life-saving provisions in the plan and to encourage him and others to continue to hold the line.
While corporate lobbyists have nearly unfettered access to many members of Congress making decisions on the future of our nation, the Poor People’s Campaign believes it’s critical for representatives of the 140 million poor and low-income Americans, who desperately need prescription drug subsidies and a living wage, to be at the table in the midst of the negotiations.
After meeting with Sen. Sanders, the Poor People’s Campaign’s contingent will be available to speak with reporters on the ground floor of the Dirksen building at 6:15 p.m. ET, and will hold a livestream here.
The discussion also will cover the connection between the future of a moral, just agenda and voting rights for the poor and low-wealth who made up 30% of the electorate in the 2020 presidential election and 40% in battleground states.
