Pauline Pisano

Communications and Culture Digital Organizer

“If we begin to sing out from the silence in our minds, freedom is yours and mine.” from “SPACESHIP” The new song on Pauline Pisano’s upcoming release, HOUSE OF DEMETER

Pauline Pisano embodies the spirit of creative rebellion. As a founding member of Songs In The Key of Resistance, a cultural arts initiative nestled under Freedom Church of the Poor and The Kairos Center for Rights, Religions, and Social Justice, Pauline collaborates with communities nationwide, leveraging the potency of collective song practices to bolster inclusive decision-making processes rooted in democratic principles. Pauline’s most recent project, House Of Demeter, is a new album and community song circle project in Joshua Tree, CA whose goal is to empower local voices through music and art, and political education rooted in the principles of, “Fighting poverty, not the poor.”

As a performer and singer/songwriter, Pauline graces stages with an authentic truth-telling presence. As a cultural worker she helps to launch many projects with the aims of bringing people together. As a recent example, she is a driving force behind a new live band karaoke community project in Joshua Tree, California, an example of creating community in unlikely spaces and developing leadership through music and art. A further example of Pauline’s work bringing together community organizing and music creation includes engaging in a debt advocacy project in 2017.

Pauline has garnered well-deserved recognition for their contributions to the arts and activism, notably as a nominee for “Outstanding Female Vocalist” at the 2023 Joshuas Awards Gala in Joshua Tree, California, and a distinguished tenure as an artist-in-residence at The Byrdcliffe Arts Colony in Woodstock, NY, where Pauline facilitated transformative discussions on the role of art in times of social upheaval. Before attending Byrdcliffe Pauline was presented with the Carmen Ortiz Hendrick Award for Excellence from Silberman School of Social Work.

From 2019 – 2022, Pauline was a co-facilitator of the arts and culture committee with the NYS Poor People’s Campaign, harnessing the transformative power of art to elevate the voices of the dispossessed. Additionally, Pauline served as an advocate within the emergency rooms of NY Presbyterian Hospital through the Domestic and Other Violence Emergencies (DOVE) Program, providing crucial support to survivors of trauma.
