From a "The City is for All" protest. The housing movement in Hungary.

All around us we can see the growing crisis of homelessness in the United States. Not just single adults but now whole families are finding themselves evicted and locked out, forced to live on the street or deal with the dangers and disrespect of the shelter system. And as city governments compete for investment and development dollars from global corporations and financiers, they take an increasingly hostile and violent stance toward people without homes. This growth of homelessness and its criminalization is playing out in different forms all over the world, and we can learn a lot about the global enemies of the poor who drive these trends through building relationships across countries and continents.
This Spring the Kairos Center is honored to be hosting Tessza Udvarhelyi, of the Hungarian homeless organization “The City is for All” and the “School of Public Life”. During her time here, we were able to connect her with other poor people’s organizations, especially organizations of the homeless, across the US. On Monday, May 9th at 12pm EDT, she led us in an online seminar and discussion about poverty in Hungary and the work of The City is for All. You can listen to an audio recording of the seminar below.
